Today I am all over the packing, cleaning, last minute purchasing, fridge cleaning and semi stressed state that comes with a holiday. We are going to the US and it's been ages. Last time I went was in 2010 when I moved to NYC to spend 5 months working at one of their 5 star hotels. I can still remember that feeling of seeing my apartment in NYC for the first time (it was dark and very different from the places I was used to from Switzerland and Norway) and walking out on the street and finally looking up in a bit of a daze. The buildings were so tall. I was so glad I had a friend with me at that point, it was actually a bit overwhelming and I was already a worried about how 5 months without the boyfriend, now my husband, would be like. NYC was a tough cookie, I worked 14 hour days with staff that loved their workers union more than they loved the job and so spent a lot of time trying to get me to make mistakes, I ate only cereal and tomato soup from a can on days I worked and I only cooked with my microwave. I got up at 5am basically every day for 5 months and I was exhausted. When it was all over I was happy to get a bit of my life back, but also sad to leave behind such a vibrant and demanding city. I have wanted to go back ever since. And finally we are, although we aren't there for too long and we will be moving on to other cities as well, it is NYC I am looking forward to the most. And all the food, all the time.
I'm Christine and I currently live in London with my husband where I do my best to go to as many restaurants as possible, bake, DIY and occasionally let my hair down and go to a museum. x
