A couple of weeks back we went to see our wedding venue with the in-laws. They hadn't seen it and there was a wedding event going on so we thought it could be a good time to go. The event wasn't much to talk about, but we had lunch booked at The Hinds Head which is Heston Blumenthal's pub. That's Heston of the Fat Duck which is a fairly well known restaurant. The pub is almost next door to the restaurant, but the food is far from the molecular cuisine that made Heston famous.
I have always wanted to go to The Fat Duck and some day I will make that a reality, but with a menu price that isn't far from what it costs to feed 1 person for several weeks, right now is not the time. Next best is of course the Hinds Head, to get
The pub is what a pub should be, just a bit more fancy and with really great food. We went on a Sunday, and being in the UK, the Sunday roast was a heavy feature. I went for roast pork and I have to say that the potatoes were crispy, fluffy, delicious. The meat was tender and well flavoured, the gravy was good. No complaints basically. Instead of having starters we saved ourselves for dessert and I had a version of Eton Mess that had aniseeds in the cream. Very surprising, and very good.
