And I am back after an unintended break from this very blog. Although you might not have noticed I was away, I am under no illusion thinking that your life is empty without me. If it is, let me know! This week was supposed to be dedicated to finding "the dress" (yep, we are still getting married next year!) as my mum was visiting, however it ended up being a week of both illness and wedding dress trying. Having a cold is never fun, having it while you have a strange woman all up in your personal space, every day, is even less fun. But life goes on, and it has been a great week. I just love having my family here, maybe they could all move to England, rather than me ever moving back to Oslo?
As usual, there was food involved this week! Which of course makes for a happy week and a happy Sunday. I am entertaining visitors both this weekend and next week so there is plenty of sightseeing going on. And eating! happy Sunday to all :)
I am one of those people that love a fitted sheet (it actually stays on the bed even if you choose to jump on it) but have no clue how to fold one. For some reason this became a discussion at work and the result was a YouTube search for tips. We came across Martha Stewart's video (any DIY queen has my heart) and after laughing at Martha's jokes, I now know how to fold those sheets! Honestly, one cannot attempt to be a semi-housewife without this knowledge.
Generally I feel bad when I take any time of time off for anything as it feels like I am wasting time that I could use to blog/work/clean/experience things/make things/craft things, you get the picture. There is always something that needs to be done and never enough time to do it, so how can I afford to take a little break? I guess we all just have to, since life happens while we plan it, and we aren't getting today back, so I would like today to be a good day. So I took a little tea break to read and appreciate life. It was heaven! Please do the same, and enjoy the day!
Ever seen someone blow dry their shoes? I'm not surprised, it's not very common. But like many women, I found myself purchasing not one, but 2 pairs of shoes that fit a little bit more smugly than I like it. Why did I buy the shoes? Well, I loved them and to be honest the size up had my feet swimming while I walked. What else was a gal to do? Google of course. Because Google is always the answer (In those situations when Ryan Gosling just won't do) and I found a way of widening leather shoes without getting any water close to the leather. that's where the hair dryer comes into play: heat up the inside of the shoe, slip on some bulky socks and force your feet into the shoes. This bit is painful, the shoe is already tight without adding the extra bulk. Then aim the hair dryer at the tight spots for about 5 minutes. Then walk around for another 5-10 minutes and voilà your shoes are ready. Mine were a little tight still after the first round of heat, so I just repeated the process and wiggled my toes extra forcefully while walking, and now the shoes are ready to accompany me on the streets of London. A small victory for women out there who just can't walk away from those shoes that are just a little snug.
One more week done, how fast time flies when you are having fun. Or something like that. I find it is getting harder and harder to get up early, get stuff done, go to the gym, and stay away from large amounts of chocolate. It's probably the weather, but it might also be my lack of willpower. Last week London was in Autumn mode and this week we are supposedly in the tropics, how confusing!
Let me explain here, I'm not mad (much) and there will be questions and situations in life when the answer will not be Ryan Gosling. Obviously. However, this guy is absolutely everywhere lately and it's quite understandable. If you wonder why, I assume that is because today is the first time you lay eyes on Mr Gosling. How does that feel? Wondering why no one told you about the Gos before? Me too.
If you happen to find yourself Googling Ryan Gosling (and why wouldn't you?!?) you will get "About 74,600,000" results of various quality. Don't aim to go through all of these, just spend 5 minutes browsing the images and you should really be feeling better. That's the thing about the Gos, he makes me feel better. And it's time he makes you feel better too. Follow me. Let's imagine you have had a bad day at work and life seem to be getting worse, not better. Look at this photo:
That should have put a tiny smile on your face. Feeling better now? How about those Monday mornings you wake up and finally start thinking about what you ate over the weekend, get on those evil scales out and watch the damage you have done show itself in numbers. Now read this:
What about when you need motivation? Or you are unsure if you should be hitting the books or the bars? Ryan has the answer:
I'm glad we got that out of our system. But don't worry, I'm not done yet. There is a dangerous/genius website that you should know about if you would like to have every photo on a website temporarily changed into photos of Ryan Gosling. Intrigued are we? Click here and make magic. And then there is the YouTube video that has made me smile this week. If you happen to type Ryan Gosling into the search bar in YouTube (and again, why wouldn't you?!?!) this video is one of the most popular. I am sad to say that I enjoy it immensely.
And with that I think it's time to wish all of us a great weekend and also confirm that I am still very much engaged to be married despite the mini obsession with Ryan Gosling. But after all, he is Ryan Gosling. Enough said.
If you live in London and pay attention to the food scene, or just happen to walk around Covent Garden/Leicester Square you would have caught the arrival of 5 Guys. Supposedly President Obama's favourite burger, just saying. And if it is good enough for the President, it's good enough for me. This is a new burger joint to add to the amazing selection we already have in London. But while many of the places to get a good burger are trying to be young and trendy, 5 Guys is just all about the burgers and less about appearances. Walking in to the restaurant (can you really call it a restaurant) it feels like walking into a fancy version of a fast food burger joint. Not that the food is anything like those fast food joints, except that they serve burgers and fries, but 5 Guys feels cleaner, well made and with ingredients that are properly sourced. Did I mention that you basically build your own burger and all toppings are free? Which means that there are no pre-made burgers waiting to be bought, all meals are built from scratch by a rather large team in an open spaced kitchen. Not bad at all. I had a small burger and small fries, but there was nothing small about either. I finished not even half of the fries and managed to force the whole burger down, american sized portions indeed. And while it's not the BEST burger I have ever had (they forgot to add my BBQ sauce which made the burger a bit dry and plain), I am all up for going back next time we are in the area. Just have a look below, doesn't it look fresh and asking you to tuck in?
There is nothing like a good blog to entertain and inspire, so naturally, when getting engaged, the first thing I did was spend hours on Pinterest and get on some of the top wedding blogs for inspiration. So right now I am inspired by Wedding Chicks, Boho Weddings, Love My Dress and Rock My Wedding. I am a sucker for real life weddings and seeing how other couples have put together their day. The aim? Making our wedding the most amazing party and blowing our guests away, naturally.
All photos are from my wedding inspiration Pinterest board.
I really love Sundays because I feel that no matter what I do, there is no reason to feel guilty. I don't feel bad if I spend the whole day reading in bed, or if I choose to sit through a 7 hour brunch. Sundays are guilt free! Today was actually a productive Sunday that started with a bit of baking and cleaning, some wedding planning, a bit of laundry, a walk in the park and right about now I am in a creative mood and finally decided to continue on my knitted blanket. At some point it will be finished!
I'm Christine and I currently live in London with my husband where I do my best to go to as many restaurants as possible, bake, DIY and occasionally let my hair down and go to a museum. x
