Yesterday we went to Orvieto. Where is that you ask? The boyfriend didn't know either, but it is in Italy, the homeland of pasta and good olive oil, which I plan to have a lot of during this coming week. I also plan to wear shorts and summer dresses, sandals and sunglasses. I am crossing fingers the weather will be on my side!
As today sees the opening of the Louboutin exhibition in the Design Museum (I mentioned it a while back here) I find it's only fair to add a pair of classics to my (ever growing) wishlist, these ones can be bought at Neiman Marcus and worn basically at all times. Maybe not to the gym, or when doing garden work, but most other times, if you can walk in them that is. That red sole is calling.
As mentioned a while back I was going to take my new iPad cover/clutch out for dinner. And what was planned to be a dinner ended up being more of a day out, and these pictures show it!
Man, do I love good weather! Yesterday and today the weather was so amazing I just couldn't get over myself, actually it has been so great lately, it's SPRING. No, really! Anyways, over to something else, namely the Charlotte Street Hotel, which I visited yesterday. I have this great plan of getting to know Soho better and Charlotte Street is actually in Soho, therefore it seemed the right place to go. I was meeting a friend for afternoon tea and we wanted to go somewhere we haven't been before and honestly this hotel is the most charming hotel I have seen in London. Boutique charm and 5 star without being posh and scary. So if you want to go to the cutest and most charming hotel I have seen in London this is it, in Charlotte Street, in Soho. Have tea, or a drink, or a bite to eat. Anything as long as you get to stay a bit in their restaurant and enjoy the atmosphere.
Last night we went to One Aldwych to go to the Moët Movies on the Menu which is a fancy version of dinner and a movie. Rather a movie and then a 3 course dinner. The film (Crazy, Stupid Love) was shown in the hotel's private screening room (hello luxe lifestyle) and we were served popcorn and champagne while watching the movie. Then we were ushered to Axis, the hotel's restaurant, for a 3 course meal. The full disclosure is really that the food wasn't all that. I'm not saying it was bad, but I'm not really feeling hungry when thinking about the menu. As a cherry on top of the cake we were interviewed by a german newspaper, it's all in the celebrity lifestyle, am I right or am I right??? The real question is, will I go back? Depends which movie they are showing.
As well, the pictures are taken with iPhone due to a feeling that whipping out the Panasonic during dinner was a bit over the top, so excuse the quality.
Hotels are full of really nice stuff that I wish I could just take with me as I am checking out. The dream is an apartment decorated like a hotel suite, alternatively I can settle for moving in to a suite in any of the 5 star London hotels much in the style of Coco Chanel and her suite at The Ritz Paris. Maybe next year...
The above pictures are from the living areas in one of the suites at The Dorchester Hotel.
Pictures from the hallways at The Dorchester. The hotel was built in the Art Deco time period and the influences are everywhere, like this wall clock.
Last weekend, in the Cotswolds, we came upon a small town called Cirencester. In this town they had a vintage/antique store, and in this store, through many small rooms, up some stairs and hiding behind some antique rubbish was this amazing tiger. The rest of the weekend was spent making sure the tiger made it to London in one piece, in a bit of an obsessive way, but all is fair in love and war, and I am definitely loving this handsome fella.
The thing about Chanel and Karl is that they make so many things women want. I know very few women that don't have a 2.55 at the back of their minds (and a secret saving-up fund) and now this look into their classic black jackets has me thinking: "Should one be on my wishlist?". Why this sudden focus? Well, pure advertising from Chanel's side really, they are launching a book about these black jackets that will have pictures of 100 people wearing different versions of the jacket. Styling and pictures are done by Karl and Caroline Roitfeld, there is even a picture of her in the book. But back to the video, it really does show how much work and care goes into one single jacket. There is something alluring and fantastic about handmade garments when we are getting used to the mass production that is the high street and it makes me want to get creative and make something myself.
Ok, so my visit to Glouchester was very short due to weather conditions and a very low score on the foodie chart. Not picture worthy and a chicken chorizo burger I don't need to think about again, and definitely not eat again. But they do have a very nice cathedral, make a decent hot choc and when rounding off the visit with a stop at H&M to get leggings, how bad could it be?
Although the purpose of our trip to Bath was to go to a meeting, it doesn't mean that one can't see a bit of the surrounding areas when business is done. It was my first visit to the Cotswolds and I want to go back! We stayed in The Bear of Rodborough (and you can see more pictures of the hotel here) and had a great time, the food was amazing (I have been really full for two whole days) and it's a pretty area to drive around in, although they aren't the best with road signs.
I'm Christine and I currently live in London with my husband where I do my best to go to as many restaurants as possible, bake, DIY and occasionally let my hair down and go to a museum. x
