One of the oldest and possibly no longer a nail polish I can use is Chanel 505. Never heard of it? What rock where you living under that year it came out? Even the fiancé knows 505. Also known as Particuliere, it was all the rage when it came out. Somewhat an IT nail polish, I know I know, it's nail polish, but if Chanel says it's trendy, the world follows.
At the time I lived and studied in Lausanne in Switzerland, not really the fashion capital of the world, and was hard pressed to get my hands on the 505. But you know, I HAD to have it, much like the other 35 polishes I never use. I remember travelling abroad several times and desperately asking the staff in the tax free if they had any left, but of course they didn't as the colour was sold out everywhere. The day I showed up at uni, only to be greeted by a friend who had found 2 bottles of 505 in a random shop in Lausanne, was a good day. Never mind that the colour was not really the most flattering on my hands. It was 505 and we had been introduced.
Why am I writing all this? Not because you really needed to know about the 505 experience I had, but when I saw that bottle of nail polish again, it reminded me of a time when rent was not a worry, I hadn't heard of the expression "bills", money just appeared (and disappeared), life was pretty good and studying was ok, there was free time to be had and I travelled frequently. All in all, a pretty fabulous existence. The future was more something that would happen later than something you actively worked to improve. Fast forward to today, and life is a bit different. Living in an apartment half the size of what my student days offered and constantly worrying about paying rent, I sometimes look back and realise that I didn't appreciate my life as a student nearly enough. So when I put 505 on my nails, I think back, and feel really lucky for the experiences I have had so far. And of course for the future! The future better be bright, guys, I hope the best is yet to come!
